Photoshop Battle: Volley 1

I challenged a friend from work to a photoshop battle.
I chose the topic of "technical wallpaper." Why? We work as technicians at a satellite company... in other words, we're nerds!
This is the first volley. The idea is that he's going to take my source file, edit the wallpaper and make a new one. He's going to have to keep parts of mine, so as to show the progression or evolution between one design to the next. He's free to change colors, text, pretty much whatever he wants so long as he maintains a portion of mine in his design. This should be pretty fun as I've always wanted to do a collaboration but have never had the chance. I'll post what he does in my scraps and provide links so that if you're interested, you're able to see the progressions from one to the other. We're gonna have 4 volleys total.
